The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced it will open many of its Taxpayer Assistance Centers (TACs) on select Saturdays from February through June 2026, providing taxpayers with expanded opportunities for in-person assistance.

These special Saturday operating hours will be available on February 28, March 28, April 11, April 25, May 30, and June 27. During these times, visitors can access all routine services offered at TACs, such as online account assistance, Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) renewal, identity theft victim assistance, and help with refunds, transcripts, and forms. However, cash payments will not be accepted on these Saturdays. Taxpayers are encouraged to check IRS.gov for specific dates and appointment information for their local office, as not all sites will be open on every date.

To ensure a productive visit, taxpayers should come prepared with a current government-issued photo identification, Social Security numbers for themselves and all household members, and any IRS letters or notices received. Those seeking identity verification services must bring two forms of identification, one being a current government-issued photo ID, and a copy of the tax return filed for the year in question. Professional foreign language interpretation will be available via an over-the-phone translation service, and sign language interpreter services can be scheduled by calling TTY/TDD 800-829-4059.

While tax return preparation is not offered at TACs, information on no-cost tax preparation options will be provided. These include IRS Free File for those with an adjusted gross income of $89,000 or less in 2025, and free help from Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) or Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) sites. Active-duty military members and certain veterans can also utilize MilTax for free federal and state tax return preparation.

Beyond the Saturday openings, many TACs also offer extended hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the filing season. Taxpayers can find answers to common tax questions and access various resources on IRS.gov, including the Interactive Tax Assistant, forms, publications, and the "Where's My Refund?" tool, which provides detailed refund status messages.
