Governor Abigail Spanberger announced today that "America's Favorite," an upcoming feature film, has chosen Virginia as its filming location, with production slated to begin this summer in the Coastal Virginia region. The film will be directed by Eric Bross, executive produced by Robbie Brenner, and star Dane DeHaan in the lead role of Peter Bale.
Governor Spanberger expressed pride in welcoming the production, highlighting Virginia's offerings for film and television projects. She emphasized the economic benefits, stating, "This is exactly the kind of production we want to keep bringing to the Commonwealth — one that creates jobs, supports Virginia crews and vendors, and showcases all that Virginia has to offer to audiences everywhere."
Secretary of Commerce and Trade Carrie Chenery echoed these sentiments, noting the "real work and economic impact for Virginians" through booked hotel rooms, meals served, and equipment rented. The Commonwealth aims to attract projects that directly benefit local jobs and businesses.
"America's Favorite" follows a reporter-turned-TV host attempting to revive his career by solving cold cases on live television, only for an investigative reporter to uncover that the case and broadcast are not what they seem. This marks producer Stephen Israel's fourth feature film in the Coastal Virginia region, who praised the area's locations and professional crews.
Virginia Film Office Director Andy Edmunds highlighted the significance of repeat business, stating it "demonstrates the value of our unparalleled locations, workforce, and hospitality." The production will utilize local resources and may be eligible for a Virginia film tax credit or grant based on specific program requirements, including employment of Virginia workers and expenditures on local goods and services.
