Mayor Karen Bass today celebrated the opening of an innovative 100% affordable housing project for veterans in Koreatown, transforming a former craftsman home into 19 individual units. This initiative exemplifies her administration's commitment to creative solutions for increasing affordable housing options across Los Angeles.
"Affordable housing doesn’t always mean large, high-rise buildings. We have to think creatively to reimagine some of the historic spaces that define our communities as we accelerate the creation of more housing," said Mayor Bass. She thanked Holos Communities and partners for dedicating the space to veterans, emphasizing their right to a safe home.
The project highlights the impact of Mayor Bass's Executive Directive 1, signed in her first week, which streamlined approval for 100% affordable housing and has accelerated over 47,000 units citywide. The directive was made a permanent city ordinance in December 2025. Other efforts include the Citywide Housing Incentive Program, expanding the Adaptive Reuse Ordinance, and Executive Directive 19 to modernize building application processes.
Last month, Mayor Bass also unveiled Viva L.A. at Warner Center, a large affordable housing project for seniors, and announced that over 1,000 veterans have secured permanent housing through her House Our Vets initiative, marking progress in ending veteran homelessness.
