Motorists should expect closures on the southbound Long Beach (710) Freeway at Anaheim Street starting tonight at 10 p.m. through Monday, Sept. 28 at 5 a.m. for the final weekend of a construction project affecting these roadways, the Port of Long Beach said.

The southbound Shoemaker Bridge, which connects to downtown Long Beach, will not be accessible due to the closure. The southbound 710 Freeway will be fully closed at Anaheim Street from Friday at 10 p.m. to Monday at 5 a.m., and the southbound Shoemaker Bridge connector/offramp will be fully closed.

To detour, cars traveling south will exit at Anaheim Street-East to Long Beach Boulevard to reach downtown Long Beach and other points to the south. Trucks traveling south will detour via the 405 North or Pacific Coast Highway to Alameda Street, then to the southbound Terminal Island Freeway to reach the port complex.

The northbound Shoemaker, which connects downtown Long Beach to the northbound 710, will remain open. Signs will be placed throughout affected areas to direct motorists.

The closures are due to a construction project to remove ramps that once connected the Shoemaker Bridge to the north harbor area in West Long Beach. Those ramps have been closed since May.

The Port of Long Beach is building the Port of the Future, guided by its 2050 vision and a plan to double annual container volume to 20 million units by 2050. The Port said it is modernizing its infrastructure with $3.3 billion in capital investments over the next decade and developing digital systems to enhance efficiency and visibility, as it works to become the world's first zero-emissions port.
