Jobless Rates Climb in Nearly Half of U.S. Metro Areas

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that jobless rates rose in 184 of 387 metropolitan areas in June compared to the previous year, indicating a widespread increase in unemployment across many U.S. cities.

Conversely, nonfarm payroll employment saw an increase in only 15 areas, while decreasing in 3 and remaining essentially unchanged in 369. This highlights a stagnant job growth picture for the majority of metropolitan regions.

Overall, 178 metro areas experienced lower jobless rates, and 25 saw no change, according to the latest Metropolitan Area Employment and Unemployment news release.
