Governor Sherrill signed ten bills into law today, addressing a range of issues from environmental protection and education to public access and mental health across New Jersey. The legislative actions include significant financial commitments to preserve the state's natural resources.
Among the signed bills, S-743/A-4554 appropriates $111.6 million for habitat restoration and land acquisition, while S-4423/A-5334 allocates $77.4 million for local open space and park development. An additional $15.5 million from S-4424/A-5333 will support nonprofit land acquisition for recreation and conservation, all managed by the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).
Other key legislation includes S-170/A-5167, requiring the Commissioner of Education to recommend spring break dates, and S-3237/A-4887, mandating closed captioning on televisions in State buildings. Governor Sherrill also signed S-4407/A-5222, extending provisions for involuntary commitment, and A-5223/S-4408, creating a pilot program for psychiatric bed status flexibility.
Additionally, SJR-137/AJR-176 designates June 10 as "Christina Grimmie Day" in New Jersey, and A-1738/S-3233 authorizes Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. license plates.
