Governor Kay Ivey has officially proclaimed June 2026 as Strong Families Month in Alabama, underscoring the vital role of families led by a father and mother in building a robust state and fostering children's success. The proclamation emphasizes that stable parental guidance is crucial for children's development and future achievements.
"Strong families build a strong Alabama," said Governor Ivey. She added, "Homes led by stable parents, a father and a mother, provide children with the structure and discipline necessary to succeed. In Alabama, we celebrate these hardworking parents that strive for an even better future for their children." The declaration also recognizes fathers' lasting impact, aligning with Father's Day on June 21.
The initiative is supported by U.S. Census Bureau data indicating that almost one-third of Alabama children reside in single-parent or non-married-couple households. Research highlights that children raised in stable homes are more likely to graduate high school, achieve economic stability, and avoid substance abuse, while also showing better educational outcomes like regular attendance and on-time graduation.
Governor Ivey's administration has demonstrated a commitment to families through policies such as the CHOOSE Act, expanding educational choice and early childhood learning. Investments in foster care and child welfare systems, alongside a partnership with the "A Home for Every Child" initiative, further reinforce the state's dedication to providing safe and stable environments for all Alabama children.
