Arlington County Government announced that speed safety cameras will remain operational during the Arlington Public Schools (APS) Summer School Program, running from July 6 through July 31, 2026. This measure aims to enhance student safety during arrival and departure times at summer learning locations.
PhotoSPEED safety cameras will be active at five specific sites: the southbound unit block of S. Carlin Springs Road, the eastbound 3500 block of 2nd Street S., the southbound 1900 block of S. George Mason Drive, the northbound 1900 block of S. George Mason Drive, and the northbound 1600 block of N. Veitch Street.
These cameras operate when school zone lights are flashing. Violators will incur a $100 civil fine issued to the vehicle's registered owner for each infraction. The PhotoSPEED system is an integral part of Arlington County’s Automated Safety Enforcement Program and supports its Vision Zero initiative. The Vision Zero Action Plan, now in its fifth year, seeks to eliminate severe injuries and fatalities within the transportation network by 2030, utilizing automated speed enforcement as a key tool to reduce speeds and promote equitable enforcement.
