Voices for Vaccines is reporting that several common claims regarding public health topics lack supporting evidence. It said that anti-vaccine activists, including Karl Jablonski, claim newborn Vitamin K shots cause cancer, infertility, and genetic problems. Voices for Vaccines stated that babies are born with low vitamin K, essential for blood clotting, and deficiency can lead to serious bleeding, including in the brain. It noted that while a small 1992 study suggested a link to childhood leukemia, larger studies found no such connection. The organization also said there is no evidence the shot causes genetic problems or infertility, with millions of recipients having grown up and had children. The American Academy of Pediatrics and the World Health Organization continue to recommend the shot for all newborns, as severe reactions are extremely rare and typically associated with IV administration at much higher doses.Voices for Vaccines also addressed a claim by Brian Hooker, who testified at a Senate committee hearing that only adopted, vaccinated Amish children are autistic. It clarified that Amish communities are diverse, and vaccination rates vary, with one study showing 68% of Amish children were vaccinated. The organization said autism occurs in unvaccinated individuals, and studies comparing vaccinated and unvaccinated children have found no meaningful difference in autism rates. It added that autism has been found in Amish communities, though it may be less visible due to privacy and access to services.Additionally, Voices for Vaccines reported on Naomi Wolf's online claim that COVID vaccines damaged the prefrontal cortex, leading to personality changes and impaired thinking. It highlighted that Wolf has a PhD in English literature, not medicine, and provides no supporting studies or evidence. The organization noted that with billions of COVID vaccine doses administered globally, a clear pattern of such serious brain changes would have been identified by medical professionals. It contrasted this with studies showing that COVID infection itself can harm the brain, leading to memory and thinking problems, and even drops in IQ scores.
