Governor Ned Lamont today announced the removal of all drought advisories across Connecticut, leaving all eight counties free from formal drought declarations following recent beneficial rainfall. This decision marks a significant improvement in the state's water conditions.
Earlier in June, a Stage 2 drought advisory, the second of five levels, was declared for Fairfield, Middlesex, and New Haven counties. This advisory was prompted by decreased precipitation, significantly low streamflow in water bodies, and heightened wildfire danger across these regions.
The recommendation to lift all previously declared advisories was provided to Governor Lamont by the Connecticut Interagency Drought Workgroup. This state entity regularly monitors drought conditions and advises the governor on appropriate responses to such environmental events.
