On Monday, May 18, 2026, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds signed SF 2472 into law, a significant property tax relief bill projected to save homeowners $4.2 billion over the next six years.

Gov. Reynolds emphasized the urgency of the relief, stating, "Over the last two years alone, property taxes have increased more than 10%. A pace that’s not only unacceptable; it’s unsustainable." She added that the legislation delivers "the property tax relief they deserve and set in place reforms that bring greater stability and reliability to local government spending."

In addition to the property tax measure, Governor Reynolds also signed several other bills. These include HF 571, which relates to protections for medical practitioners, and HF 2788, concerning abortions. Other bills address civil liability for motocross facilities (HF 917), sales tax exemptions for telecommunications equipment (HF 960), and radon mitigation in residential buildings (HF 2297).

Further legislation signed includes provisions for accessible prescription-related measures for persons with visual impairments (HF 2585), thoroughbred and quarter horse racing seasons (HF 2615), and establishing a sexual assault forensic examination center grant program (HF 2794). Bills SF 304, SF 472, SF 2088, SF 2219, and SF 2231 cover topics from minor's consent for STD treatment to education reforms and transportation regulations.
