Google capped an active September with the launch of Gemini 4 Argon, its newest frontier model built with advanced reasoning and a 1-million-token context window.
The model is designed to tackle complex challenges, especially in cybersecurity defense, and is currently rolling out to trusted cyber defenders through the Fairwind Program. Google said it is gathering feedback from early testers to iterate on guardrails before expanding availability to developers, enterprises, and consumers. The release followed Gemini 3.8 Flash and 3.8 Flash Cyber, which Google said delivers its best reasoning and coding performance yet at the same speed and low cost as 3.7 Flash.
Google also launched two natural language audio models: Gemini 3.8 Live for everyday conversation and Gemini 3.8 Live Extended Thinking, described as the top-rated speech-to-speech model for multi-step reasoning without lag. New text-to-speech models, Gemini 3.8 Flash-Lite TTS and Gemini 3.8 Flash TTS, let users generate custom voices and direct scene dialogue from simple text prompts.
New Connected Apps bring tools including Airtable, Linear, monday.com, Adobe, Picsart, Peloton, and Experian directly into Gemini. The music generation model Lyria 3.5 is now available globally in Gemini, and Gemini Notebook adds interactive coursework tools and animated video summaries in over 80 languages.
On the science side, Google introduced AlphaGenome Atlas, a database that predicts the effects of every possible single nucleotide variant in the human genome — all 9 billion of them — and requires zero coding skills. With NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Google developed MAPL-EMIT, a deep learning model that tracks global methane leaks from space. Google said the model detects 50% more emissions than human experts and has uncovered over 23,000 previously unmapped plumes, including 24 of the world's 25 largest-emitting landfills.
Scientists at Google, HHMI Janelia, and Cambridge University built the first complete brain map of an adult male fruit fly, charting over 166,000 neurons and nearly 12,000 distinct cell types with the help of Google AI. Google also launched Project Suncatcher, which will send its first test satellite with Planet to evaluate how Google TPUs perform in space, where satellites in low-Earth orbit can access up to eight times more solar power than on Earth.
WeatherNext 3, Google's most advanced global weather AI model, now includes real-time satellite data, hourly refreshes, higher resolution, and precise precipitation forecasting, and is integrated across Search, Gemini, Maps, Google Maps Platform, and Cloud. Googlebook, a laptop built on Android and paired with desktop foundations from ChromeOS, is now available for pre-order, and the Gemini app has arrived on Windows.
Google also announced the DeepMind Institute, a platform for researchers to publish ideas about a world with AGI. "With AGI on the horizon, it's incumbent on the creators of AI technology to sincerely and thoughtfully address its risks — but its transformative impact cannot be steered by technologists alone," the company said.
