Nebraska Game and Parks announced an optimistic outlook for upland bird hunting this fall, alongside the launch of its ninth annual Upland Slam challenge beginning September 1. Favorable conditions for birds are attributed to a mild winter and timely rains across central and eastern Nebraska, which have sustained quality habitat.
Hunters participating in the Upland Slam will aim to harvest four upland game bird species in a single season to earn an official certificate, pin, and bragging rights. This year, in celebration of Nebraska's 100th pheasant season, all hunters submitting a pheasant entry will be entered into a special drawing.
In other news, Smith Falls State Park in north central Nebraska has introduced all-terrain wheelchairs, including adult and child-sized GRIT chairs, to enhance accessibility for visitors with mobility challenges. These chairs are available at the park office during open hours, allowing more people to experience the park's natural beauty.
