Publix has issued a recall for all lots of its GreenWise Organic Whole Blueberries and Whole Mixed Berries due to potential contamination with Escherichia coli O145 (E. coli O145). This Shiga toxin-producing E. coli can cause severe stomach cramps, diarrhea, and vomiting, with some infections leading to hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), particularly in vulnerable populations.
The affected products were distributed to Publix stores across eight states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. Publix initiated an internal stop sale for these frozen organic berries at the end of June 2026, and they are currently not available for purchase.
This expanded recall follows a previous announcement on July 3 by Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur S.A. concerning GreenWise Organic Blueberries, Lot Code 60401. Publix is taking this broader action as a precautionary measure, based on product traceback and epidemiological information from public health officials.
