The Wall Street Journal is reporting in its Morning Editorial Report that its editorial board argues nothing now stops Anthropic or OpenAI from "pacing the frontier" on their own, in a piece titled "The Great AI Slowdown?" It said the board contends President Donald Trump lectures Ukraine rather than Russia, telling Kyiv to stop hitting Russian diesel while Vladimir Putin bombs civilian targets.

The Journal said the board writes that an expanded child tax credit is the first step on "The Road to a Universal Basic Income," and that the bidding is underway. It said the board also argues Democrats now want to break up the large health care firms they helped create, in a piece on "The New ObamaCare Trust Busters."

The Journal said the board writes that Trump's real problem is real wages, and that the best response is to let Kevin Warsh and the Federal Reserve get inflation down.

In commentary, the Journal said contributor Cameron Berg writes that the models are advancing more quickly than understanding of them, in a piece titled "We Need a Science of the AI Mind." It said David Hunter writes that new imaging and biomarker technology shows promise for restoring joint function, in a piece asking whether there could be a cure for osteoarthritis.

The Journal said Andrew M. Cuomo asks whether Americans meant it when they said "never forget" and "never again," in a piece on antisemitism surging 25 years after 9/11. It said Andres B. Munoz-Mosquera and Orde F. Kittrie write that the Trump administration may soon have reason to dismantle another international tribunal, in a piece on the ICJ's plan to redefine genocide.

The Journal said columnist Allysia Finley writes that Covid shutdowns, grade inflation and now AI are degrading the quality of American education. It said Mary Anastasia O'Grady writes that Brazil's president faces a tough challenge when Brazilians go to the polls on Oct. 4. It said Andy Kessler writes that vandalism against food-delivery robots isn't going to slow the technology down.
