Breaking Defense is reporting that South Korea has inducted its first locally developed fighter jet, the KF-21, into its air force. It said the introduction of the aircraft marks a significant milestone for the country's defense industry.
Breaking Defense also reported that the Air Force says its China think tank will continue, but the institute's director said it is basically dead. Brendan Mulvaney, director of the China Aerospace Studies Institute, told Breaking Defense that the Air Force's stance that the institute can function without civilian staff is "not credible."
In a separate item, Breaking Defense reported that U.S. Northern Command is testing ways to counter drone incursions. It said the testing comes as the Air Force institute focused on China faces questions about its future.
Breaking Defense also published an op-ed arguing that the drone age did not end armored warfare but rewrote the terms of survival, noting that Chinese military analysts are paying attention to how China is rethinking tank survival against first-person-view drones and top-attack threats.
