Governor Jim Pillen has issued a directive for Nebraska state agencies, boards, and commissions to implement further reductions in state spending. This action aims to safeguard reduced income tax rates and continued investments in property tax relief for Nebraskans.
The directive follows a significant increase in tax refunds during fiscal year 2026, where the State paid out $307 million more than initially anticipated. This amount represents funds returned directly to taxpayers.
Governor Pillen emphasized the necessity of these spending cuts to address the gap in state revenue and ensure the ongoing financial benefits for residents.
