Former Brooklyn Daycare Director Pleads Guilty to $2.75 Million Wire Fraud

Murielle Misczak, a former director of a Brooklyn daycare, pleaded guilty today in federal court to wire fraud, admitting to stealing over $2.75 million from her employer.

Misczak, 43, faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and restitution of $2,805,871. The plea was entered before United States District Judge Nicholas G. Garaufis.

U.S. Attorney Joseph Nocella, Jr. said, "The defendant took advantage of her access to bank accounts for the Daycare to steal millions in tuition payments in order to line her own pockets and fund trips to World Wrestling Entertainment events among other personal expenses." FBI Assistant Director James C. Barnacle, Jr. added that Misczak's "selfish greed deprived a local daycare of nearly three million dollars in critical funding."

Misczak, who served as director from 2020, orchestrated the scheme from January 2022 through October 2025. She diverted tuition payments into accounts she controlled, then transferred them to her personal accounts, concealing the theft by altering the daycare's accounting systems. She spent over $600,000 on travel and entertainment, including more than $350,000 on professional wrestling events, alongside luxury goods and personal services.
