Avery Ricardo Robinson III, 26, of the District of Columbia, was sentenced today to 60 months in U.S. District Court for an armed carjacking that occurred last year in Northwest D.C. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro announced the sentencing, emphasizing the office's commitment to pursuing serious sentences for violent offenders.
"Robinson carjacked his victim for sport. He terrorized his victim at gunpoint, left his victim with a death threat ringing in his ears, and then abandoned his victim’s stolen vehicle only a mile away,” said U.S. Attorney Pirro. Robinson pleaded guilty to one count of carjacking on March 10, 2026, before U.S. District Judge Loren L. AliKhan, who also ordered three years of supervised release.
According to court documents, on September 20, 2025, Robinson approached the victim on a bicycle near the 1400 block of Park Road NW. He pulled a firearm, demanded possessions, and forced the victim to hand over car keys and a necklace, threatening to shoot him if they met again. Robinson then drove off in the victim's 2017 Nissan Altima, which police later recovered about a mile away.
Robinson was arrested two days later in possession of a loaded handgun. At the time of the carjacking, he was on bench warrant status for two separate stolen vehicle cases and had a 2025 conviction in Maryland for unlawful taking of a motor vehicle. The Metropolitan Police Department and the FBI Washington Field Office investigated the case, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Caelainn Carney prosecuting.
