Republicans are now seeking $1 billion in taxpayer money to fund a White House ballroom project initiated by former President Donald Trump, despite his earlier assurance that it would not cost taxpayers.
This request follows Trump's demolition of the East Wing to construct the "golden ballroom." Congresswoman Katherine Clark, Democratic Whip, criticized the move, noting that Republicans have simultaneously cut healthcare for working families and slashed food assistance for children. Trump himself reportedly said, "I don’t think about Americans’ financial situation."
Clark highlighted that these funds are being sought while Democrats advocate for "commonsense solutions to make life safer and more affordable for working people," contrasting their efforts with what she described as spending on "billionaire tax cuts, and a reckless war with Iran."
