The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) reminds taxpayers who missed the filing deadline that they can still submit their 2025 federal tax return at no cost using IRS Free File. This service remains available through October 15, offering a crucial opportunity for millions to fulfill their tax obligations.

IRS Chief Executive Officer Frank J. Bisignano emphasized the program's value, saying, "IRS Free File makes it easy for taxpayers to meet their filing obligations and claim valuable tax credits at no cost." He added that tools like IRS Free File contribute to transforming the IRS into a digital-first agency, providing a secure, convenient, and reliable filing experience.

More than 109 million taxpayers are eligible for free guided tax preparation if their adjusted gross income is $89,000 or less. This includes many who do not typically file and may qualify for overlooked tax credits or refunds. Those exceeding the income threshold can still file electronically using Free File Fillable Forms. The program offers secure, user-friendly options, including services in Spanish and free state tax filing from trusted partners, ensuring accurate returns and faster refunds through direct deposit. The IRS encourages taxpayers to utilize this free service before the October 15 deadline by visiting IRS.gov.
