The latest Joint USAF/NOAA Solar Geophysical Activity Report forecasts unsettled to minor storm levels for the geomagnetic field on September 8th and 9th, with a slight chance of M-class solar flares over the next three days. Solar activity has remained low, with seven sunspot regions currently observed.
Over the past 24 hours, solar activity was low, while the geomagnetic field experienced quiet to active conditions. Key measurements included a solar wind speed peak of 519 km/s and total Interplanetary Magnetic Field (IMF) reaching 17 nT. Electrons greater than 2 MeV at geosynchronous orbit peaked at 428 pfu.
Looking ahead, the probability for an M-class flare is 15% daily from September 8th to 10th. The geomagnetic field is expected to return to quiet to unsettled levels by September 10th, following the anticipated minor storm conditions.
