Fairfax County Animal Services (FCAS) is launching a series of community programs and services this summer, including the return of its popular "Paws & Read" sessions, celebrating successful pet adoptions, and continuing low-cost vaccine and microchip clinics.
The "Paws & Read" program invites readers of all ages to the Lorton Campus every Tuesday, starting June 16, for quiet reading time with adoptable cats and small animals. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Additionally, FCAS recently participated in the BISSELL Pet Foundation's 10th annual "Empty the Shelters" event, which saw over 90 pets find new homes in just three days, with many more going on Adoption Audition.
FCAS also highlighted the importance of pet identification through the story of Maya, a dog reunited with her family after being recognized from a weekly stray animals post, underscoring the critical role of microchips. For those looking to adopt, Marley, a 12-year-old dog described as gentle and affectionate, is featured and comes with a $500 care credit to Pender Veterinary Centre.
Fairfax County residents can continue to access essential pet care through monthly low-cost vaccination and microchipping clinics. These services are available at the Fairfax Center Fire Station 40 and the Lorton Campus throughout June, July, and August, reinforcing FCAS's commitment to animal welfare and community engagement.
