Souleymane Kah, 36, of Westerville, Ohio, pleaded guilty today in Philadelphia to conspiracy and other charges for his role in a scheme to steal and sell more than 20 rental cars. U.S. Attorney David Metcalf announced the plea before United States District Judge Kelley Brisbon Hodge.
From December 2020 to December 2021, Kah and co-conspirators fraudulently rented vehicles from companies across the central and eastern United States. They used genuine driver's licenses belonging to unaware third parties or created fake licenses to obtain the cars.
The stolen vehicles were then transported across state lines and sold to various purchasers, who subsequently exported them overseas. Payments for the cars were received through cash, electronic money transfer apps, and even a luxury vehicle.
Kah is scheduled for sentencing on September 22 and faces a maximum possible term of 25 years’ imprisonment. The FBI investigated the case, with Assistant United States Attorneys Meghan Claiborne Bisio and Kara Traster prosecuting.
