The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced enforcement actions against non-citizens who illegally cast votes in New Jersey elections, following a joint investigation.
Four non-citizens were charged earlier this year by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Idan Choresh (43, Israel) voted in the 2022 election, Jacenth Emelyn Beadle Exum (70, Jamaica) in 2020, David Gboty Neewilly (73, Liberia) in 2020 and 2024, and Abhinandan Vig (33, India) in 2020. Charges include illegal voting in federal elections and making false statements related to naturalization.
Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis said, "These aliens illegally voted in American elections. New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill confirmed thousands of non-citizens are registered to vote in New Jersey. We need the SAVE America Act to ensure only Americans elect American leaders."
DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin previously sent letters to secretaries of state, including New Jersey's, warning about non-citizen voter registrations. Following this, New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill admitted that approximately 6,600 non-citizens were registered to vote in the state. Additionally, at least 75,000 non-citizens are called for jury duty in New Jersey annually. These actions align with the Trump Administration’s broader focus on preventing non-citizens from voting in American elections.
