Governor Kim Reynolds has issued a disaster proclamation for eight Iowa counties in response to severe weather that began on May 15, 2026, and is ongoing. This action allows state resources to be deployed for response and recovery efforts and activates two key assistance programs for the affected areas.

The proclamation makes the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program available, offering grants up to $7,000 for households with incomes up to 200 percent of the federal poverty level. These grants can assist with home or car repairs, replacement of personal property or food, and temporary housing expenses, requiring original receipts for reimbursement.

Additionally, the Disaster Case Advocacy Program has been activated to address serious needs arising from disaster-related hardship. This program provides clients with disaster recovery plans, guidance, advice, and referrals to necessary services or resources, with no income eligibility requirements. It will remain active for 180 days.

The affected counties are Emmet, Hancock, Palo Alto, Plymouth, Pocahontas, Winnebago, Woodbury, and Worth. Residents seeking assistance can find the Disaster Assistance Request Form and instructions on the Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management website.
