CBC News is reporting that Statistics Canada will include questions about sexual orientation in the national census for the first time next year. CBC said the questions will be part of the long-form questionnaire distributed to one-quarter of Canadian households. The new questions, approved by Prime Minister Mark Carney's cabinet on June 13, aim to provide a comprehensive understanding of the geographic distribution of different sexual orientations and identify areas where Canadians are at higher risk of homelessness.
In other news, an Ontario retiree's dream car, a 1969 Ford Shelby Mustang, has been caught in the Canada-U.S. trade war, resulting in a 25 per cent tariff. CBC reports that Cameron Gillespie, 65, bought the car for $117,600, but the tariffs have added an additional $30,000, bringing the total to $148,300. TFX International, a Toronto-based car shipping firm, is reportedly losing up to $100,000 a week due to the tariffs.
