Fairfax County Police have arrested a 19-year-old man following a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred early this morning in Lincolnia. Claudio Medina Osorio, of Alexandria, was charged with Driving While Intoxicated after striking Stephen Roberts, 73, also of Alexandria, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The incident happened around 3:38 a.m. at the intersection of Little River Turnpike and Southland Avenue. Detectives from the Crash Reconstruction Unit determined Roberts was crossing Little River Turnpike when he was hit by an eastbound 2018 Honda Civic driven by Osorio. Osorio reportedly drove a short distance before stopping and calling 911.
Officers observed signs of impairment in Osorio, leading to his arrest by the DWI Enforcement Squad. He is currently held without bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. Speed is still being investigated as a potential factor in the crash. Victim specialists are providing support to Roberts' family.
