Governor Sherrill Signs Historic Legislation Making New Jersey First State to Enact Voting Rights Reform Following Supreme Court Decision

New Jersey Governor Sherrill Caldwell today signed the "John R. Lewis Voter Empowerment Act of New Jersey" into law, making the state the first to enact voting rights reform following the United States Supreme Court's decision in Louisiana v. Callais.

This landmark legislation, identified as ACS for A-1715/SCS for S-282, was sponsored by Reynolds-Jackson, Turner, Cryan, and Scutari. The administration highlighted its significance in strengthening voter protections.

Additionally, Governor Caldwell signed S-4406/A-5310, a bill sponsored by McKnight, Diegnan, Pintor Marin, Lopez, and Quijano, which clarifies sentencing under certain circumstances.
