Newsweek is reporting that Chinese President Xi Jinping wrapped up his three-day state visit to Washington on Friday. It said President Donald Trump and Xi are expected to meet twice more before the end of the year, in China in November and at the G20 summit in Miami in December. The White House said the leaders held "productive" bilateral discussions and that the visit showcased the "strength" of the United States and "advanced American economic interests." Newsweek said few other details have been released. Trump told reporters Friday that he and Xi discussed the war in Iran but did not provide additional details, saying, "We had a great meeting. We had a really great meeting. Great for the farmers. Great for everybody."
Newsweek also reported that live television coverage of White House events resumed Friday after a federal judge temporarily blocked the administration's ban on CNN, MS NOW and Politico.
Separately, Newsweek reported that Trump gave his U.N. General Assembly speech Tuesday before a standing-room-only crowd, and that Iran's U.N. delegates walked out as he discussed the country's military strikes and hinted at a "big decision" ahead.
Newsweek reported that Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson warned Friday that the Supreme Court had misused its power and favored the Trump administration over voters, as it lifted a bar on using Social Security information within a federal citizenship verification system ahead of the midterms.
On gas prices, Newsweek reported that the Trump administration said earlier this week it was considering whether a temporary ban or restriction on diesel exports is feasible, with Politico now reporting that officials are weighing other options.
Newsweek also reported that the Trump administration appealed to the Supreme Court on another immigration matter, this time over its ability to deport immigrants to countries that are not their home nation.
