The Great American Whiskey Collection collectively raised $2.5 million in New York on Jan. 24, doubling its pre-sale predictions. It said this event marked the world’s most valuable sale of the American spirit. TIME noted that this achievement is the latest indication that American whiskey is finally emerging from the shadows, coinciding with the U.S. celebrating its 250th anniversary.
