Fairfax County Animal Services (FCAS) is actively engaging the community with a range of programs and services this summer, including wildlife rescue, adoption events, and essential pet care clinics.
Earlier this spring, FCAS collaborated with park staff, volunteers, and the Wildlife Rescue League to successfully renest two Great Horned owlets. The owlets, discovered by parkgoers, underwent a veterinary assessment before being safely reunited with their parents in a new, secure nest.
The Lorton Campus is currently hosting "Paws & Read" every Tuesday through August 25, inviting readers of all ages to practice reading with shelter pets. FCAS is also seeking new foster families for animals of all types and offers information sessions for interested individuals.
Additionally, FCAS highlights Yzma, a 9-year-old cat diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, who has been awaiting adoption for five months. Yzma will go home with a $500 senior pet care credit. Low-cost vaccine and microchip clinics for Fairfax County residents are scheduled for July 24, August 5, August 28, and September 2, from 9 to 11 a.m., at both the Lorton Campus and Fairfax Center Fire Station 40.
