Governor Gavin Newsom and State Treasurer Fiona Ma, CPA, announced a new collaboration with Early Wealth Partnership to launch the Early Investment Accounts Navigator, a groundbreaking tool designed to help California families easily access billions of dollars in unclaimed early investment accounts for their children. This initiative aims to simplify the process of finding and claiming publicly and philanthropically supported financial resources, including CalKIDS and Section 530A Trump Accounts.
Developed by Early Wealth Partnership in collaboration with the Governor and Treasurer’s Offices and Invest America, the mobile-first, bilingual navigator will be piloted in California before expanding to other states by the end of 2026. It seeks to connect the fragmented landscape of children's savings and wealth-building accounts, ensuring families can discover all eligible funds. For instance, a Medi-Cal-eligible newborn in Oakland could find $500 in an Oakland Promise Brilliant Baby account, $100 from CalKIDS, and $1,000 in a 530A Trump Account.
Governor Newsom emphasized the importance of this initiative, saying, "Too many families are missing out on resources that can help build a stronger financial future — not because those opportunities don’t exist, but because they can be difficult to find and navigate." He added that California is "proud to be the first state where this new tool will launch — putting technology to work to expand opportunities for more families.” First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom also highlighted that the navigator "empowers parents and caregivers to confidently jumpstart their children's savings and set them up for long-term success through critical programs like CalKIDS."
Treasurer Fiona Ma, CPA, noted that the tool supports access to existing savings and investment programs, which currently serve over 1.5 million Californians and manage approximately $21.3 billion in assets. Amanda Feinstein, Executive Director of Early Wealth Partnership, said the navigator would make it "much easier" for families to discover resources already set aside for their children, sparking "a sense of possibility, motivation, and hope." The project benefits from pro bono technical support from Google engineers and funding from Google.org, and will also inform parents about philanthropic contributions, such as a $250 gift from Michael and Susan Dell to eligible children’s 530A Trump Accounts.
Matt Lira, Executive Director of Invest America, expressed hope that this public-private partnership would serve as a model for other states, unlocking "trajectory-changing impacts for every child in America."
