The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced it will open many of its Taxpayer Assistance Centers (TACs) on select Saturdays from February through June 2026 to provide in-person assistance to taxpayers. These special operating hours aim to offer convenient help with various tax-related services across the nation.
The Saturday openings are scheduled for February 28, March 28, April 11, April 25, May 30, and June 27. During these times, visitors can access most services routinely offered at TACs, such as online account assistance, Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) renewal, IRS identity theft victim assistance, and help with payments, refunds, transcripts, and forms. Cash payments, however, cannot be made at TACs during these Saturday hours.
Taxpayers are encouraged to check the "Contact your local office" section on IRS.gov for specific appointment information, as not all locations will be open on every scheduled Saturday. For deaf or hard of hearing individuals requiring sign language interpreter services, appointments can be made by calling TTY/TDD 800-829-4059. Professional foreign language interpretation will also be available via an over-the-phone translation service.
To ensure a smooth visit, taxpayers should bring current government-issued photo identification, Social Security numbers for all household members, and any relevant IRS letters or notices. Those requesting identity verification services must present two forms of identification, one being a current government-issued photo ID, along with a copy of the tax return filed for the year in question.
While tax return preparation is not offered at TACs, information on no-cost tax preparation options will be available. These include IRS Free File for those with an adjusted gross income of $89,000 or less in 2025, and free assistance at Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) or Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) sites. Active-duty military members and veterans can also utilize the free MilTax program.
Beyond Saturday hours, many TACs offer extended office hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the filing season. Taxpayers can also find answers to common questions and access various resources, including the Interactive Tax Assistant and the "Where's My Refund?" tool, on IRS.gov, often eliminating the need for an in-person visit.
