U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested Lucas Gustavo Dibenedetto, an illegal alien, following his release from jail by Massachusetts authorities despite charges stemming from a drunk-driving crash that hospitalized a state trooper. Dibenedetto, a citizen of Italy and Brazil, was taken into ICE custody on June 2, pending removal proceedings.

The incident occurred on May 31, 2026, when Massachusetts State Police arrested Dibenedetto after he allegedly drove the wrong way on Route 1 in Peabody while intoxicated, colliding with a trooper's cruiser. The trooper was hospitalized but has since been released and is recovering. Dibenedetto faces charges including driving under the influence of liquor, negligent operation, and driving the wrong way.

Despite these charges, "sanctuary politicians in Massachusetts released this dangerous criminal from jail without notifying ICE," said Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis. She added that thanks to ICE, Dibenedetto is now in custody and will be removed from the country. Dibenedetto originally entered the U.S. on January 5, 2007, with a three-month authorized stay.
