The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has released its 2026-2027 Public Access Atlas, providing details on over 1.3 million acres of publicly accessible land for hunting, fishing, and trapping across the state. This new digital resource, including Open Fields and Waters areas, is now available to help outdoor enthusiasts plan their fall activities.
During an August 14 meeting, Nebraska Game and Parks commissioners approved the 2027 mountain lion and bighorn sheep seasons. Additionally, changes to park regulations were also given the green light by the commission.
Meanwhile, boaters at Lake McConaughy face new restrictions as the last public boat ramp has closed due to low water levels. Access to the lake is now available through three private boat launch vendors, and visitors are cautioned to avoid traveling west of Van's Lakeview to prevent boats from getting stuck in mud flats. Despite the lower water, Lake Mac continues to offer various recreational opportunities, including boating, fishing, paddling, swimming, and enjoying its white-sand beaches.
