Newsweek is reporting that Lindsay Clancy's lawyer urged a judge to dismiss her case and enter a finding of not guilty as she returned to court Tuesday for the first time since her murder trial collapsed. Defense attorney Kevin Reddington argued that prosecutors failed to present sufficient evidence that Clancy killed her three children and failed to prove she was not suffering from psychosis at the time of their deaths. He asked the court where the evidence was that she did this, adding that a motion for a required finding of not guilty should have been entered on the total and complete lack of evidence.
Newsweek is also reporting that a man shot in the back by an immigration agent in Austin, Texas, now faces a federal charge after allegedly hitting the agent with his car's mirror as he drove away from a traffic stop. It said body camera stills from the shooting have been released.
Separately, Newsweek reported that during a tense Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, Republican Sen. John Kennedy of Louisiana clashed with former special counsel Jack Smith over federal prosecutions of President Donald Trump, using references to the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny, Jimmy Hoffa and Michelle Obama's Netflix documentary.
Newsweek also reported that judges on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit on Tuesday appeared receptive to allowing Chief U.S. District Judge James Boasberg to continue investigating who may have been responsible for an alleged violation of a court order tied to deportation flights carrying Venezuelan migrants to El Salvador.
Newsweek further reported that the release of five men arrested near a British air base used by the United States military has prompted questions and speculation over a counterterrorism investigation linked to foreign adversaries, including Iran. It said paparazzi were spotted at the school attended by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
