Mayor Karen Bass today celebrated the opening of a new 100% affordable housing project for veterans in Koreatown, transforming a former craftsman home into 19 individual units. This initiative underscores her administration's dedication to expanding affordable housing options across Los Angeles.
Since taking office, Mayor Bass has prioritized housing development, signing Executive Directive 1 to streamline the approval process for 100% affordable housing. This directive has accelerated over 47,000 units citywide and was unanimously made a permanent city ordinance by the City Council in December 2025.
Recent efforts include unveiling Viva L.A. at Warner Center, a large affordable housing project for seniors in Woodland Hills, and announcing that over 1,000 veterans have secured permanent housing through her House Our Vets initiative. Additional programs like the Citywide Housing Incentive Program, the Adaptive Reuse Ordinance, and Executive Directive 19 aim to further increase housing capacity and streamline development processes. Mayor Bass also introduced Missing Middle LA draft ordinances to facilitate building smaller, more affordable homes.
