The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has announced the largest data release in the history of its All of Us Research Program, establishing it as the world's most extensive integrated genomic and electronic health record (EHR) database. Data from over 747,000 participants is now available to scientists, including more than 535,000 whole genome sequences linked to nearly 482,000 EHRs, providing an unmatched combination of genomic depth and clinical breadth.

NIH Director Jay Bhattacharya, M.D., Ph.D., highlighted the program's importance for precision medicine. "To tailor treatments to individuals, you actually need very large populations to uncover the patterns that connect genetics, lifestyle, and the environment to health outcomes," he said. "That is exactly what All of Us provides: research at unprecedented scale."

The program has grown by over 114,000 participants, now totaling more than 883,000 enrolled individuals. The dataset includes over 1.3 billion genetic variants and 747,000 survey responses, with EHR data expanding by 22%. Josh Denny, M.D., CEO of the All of Us Research Program, said, "This release puts a richer dataset into the hands of scientists working on real clinical problems. This is how we advance the health of all Americans."

A key strength of All of Us is its diverse representation, with over 645,000 participants, or 86% of the total, coming from communities historically underrepresented in biomedical research. These include older adults, women, people with disabilities, and various racial and ethnic groups, spanning 98% of U.S. three-digit ZIP codes.

The latest release also marks the program's entry into the multiomics era, incorporating proteomics, RNA sequencing, and long-read whole genome sequences from thousands of participants. Additional multiomic data releases are anticipated later this year. The program has already supported over 1,400 peer-reviewed publications and returned more than 733,000 personalized health-related DNA results to participants. Dr. Bhattacharya called All of Us "a national treasure," offering an accessible platform for investigators nationwide to address pressing health challenges.
