The U.S. Department of War has announced a new mandatory screening protocol for service members to address testosterone deficiency, aiming to enhance warfighter performance and overall force readiness. This initiative, directed by Secretary Hegseth, will require all Active Duty and Reserve Component personnel aged 30 and older to undergo screening during their Periodic Health Assessment (PHA), effective immediately.
Chief Pentagon Spokesman Sean Parnell said that the enhanced screening is designed to optimize performance, combat Operator Syndrome, and maximize mission readiness. Service members under 30 may also request this screening during their PHA. The Department's goal is to establish a comprehensive baseline and offer targeted testosterone therapy where needed.
This protocol builds upon existing efforts outlined in the "Warfighter Performance Optimization – Total Force Fitness" memorandum. It represents a continued investment in the health, peak performance, and resilience of the force, ensuring the Department sustains a healthy, capable, and decisively dominant fighting force.
