U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested a Bahamian alien with a lengthy violent criminal history who had illegally voted in the 2020 election, the Department of Homeland Security said.
ICE Homeland Security Investigations Atlanta arrested Anthony Tyrone Higgs in Decatur, Georgia, on September 3. He is currently in the custody of ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations.
Higgs' criminal history includes convictions for two counts of possession of a weapon during a violent crime, two counts of grand larceny, armed robbery with a deadly weapon, criminal domestic violence, assault on a police officer, and resisting arrest. HSI Atlanta confirmed through an investigation in August 2026 that Higgs had illegally voted in the 2020 election.
"This criminal alien from the Bahamas has a rap sheet for multiple violent crimes, including armed robbery, domestic violence, and assault on a police officer," said DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin. "On top of all of that, he illegally voted in the 2020 election. If even one non-citizen votes in our elections, it cancels out the vote of an American citizen. Thanks to the hard work of the men and women of ICE, this criminal will be removed from our country and can never interfere in our elections again."
Higgs was admitted to the United States as a Lawful Permanent Resident in October 1976. DHS has placed him in removal proceedings to revoke his LPR status due to his crimes.
DHS said the case is part of the Trump Administration's broader focus on stopping non-citizens from voting in American elections. Recent examples cited include the August sentencing of Carlos Felipe Jaramillo-Grajales, a Colombian illegal alien sentenced to three years in prison for identity theft used to vote illegally for more than 20 years, and the July arrests of aliens from Slovakia and Australia over illegal voting in New Jersey and Louisiana.
