Fairfax County is marking Energy Efficiency Week from Oct. 1-7, offering residents programs and guidance on energy-saving measures and home improvements.

The county said being energy efficient reduces utility costs, cuts air pollution, creates healthier communities and drives economic growth.

In its daily update, the county also highlighted family caregiver resources offered for Medicare open enrollment, and a new public works hub showing sustainability progress.

School crossing guards were recognized for keeping students safe, marking 75 years of the service.

The county also shared a Fairfax Forward success story. When a teen's mother was in immediate need of mental health services, it left a 13-year-old in need of a foster care placement. Fairfax County's Kinship Unit and a group of caring neighbors ensured that James stayed connected to his school, friends and community when his family was in crisis.
