The NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center has issued an advisory detailing recent solar activity and forecasting conditions for the coming week. The past week saw significant solar flare activity, including G1-G3 geomagnetic storms, while the outlook for July 6-12 anticipates further R-class events but no major geomagnetic or solar radiation storms.
From June 29 to July 5, the sun produced 42 R1, 5 R2, and 2 R3 solar flare events. An isolated G1 geomagnetic storm occurred on July 1 due to a weak Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) from late June. More notably, G1-G3 storming conditions were observed throughout July 5, resulting from CMEs that arrived from June 30 and July 1-2.
Looking ahead to July 6-12, R1-R2 solar flare events are likely on July 6, with a slight chance for R3 or greater events. A slight chance for R1 or greater events continues from July 7-12. However, the center does not anticipate any G1 or greater geomagnetic storming, nor any S1 or greater solar radiation events during this period.
