Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds concluded the 2026 legislative session by taking final action on numerous bills, signing 27 into law, exercising line-item vetoes on four appropriations bills, and fully vetoing five others.
The signed legislation covers a wide range of topics, including the creation of an emeritus medical license (SF 469), provisions for child foster care and adoption based on religious or moral beliefs (SF 473), and changes to civil action statutes of limitations (SF 512). Other significant bills address workforce development (SF 2168), education reforms (SF 2220, HF 2493, HF 2610, HF 2670), and public assistance programs like SNAP and Medicaid (SF 2422).
Further bills signed into law include measures related to wildlife management (SF 654, SF 2471), licensure for crematory operators and massage establishments (SF 563, HF 2602), and an interstate compact for podiatric medical licensure (HF 2498). Campaign finance regulations (HF 2601) and the peace officer, public safety, and emergency personnel bill of rights (HF 2797) also became law.
Governor Reynolds also approved five appropriations bills, allocating funds for transportation (SF 2478), state government administration (HF 2768), the judicial branch (HF 2769), the justice system (HF 2770), and economic development (HF 2772). However, she exercised line-item vetoes on four other appropriations bills (SF 2484, HF 2782, HF 2783, HF 2800), impacting areas such as infrastructure, health and human services, and education funding.
Five bills faced full vetoes from the Governor. These included legislation concerning the submission of proposed legislation by state departments (SF 2207), multiple bills related to district-to-community college sharing or concurrent enrollment programs (SF 2299, SF 2320), investment by regents institutions in innovation funds (SF 2453), and project design standards (HF 2667).
