The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) conducted a targeted operation in New Jersey on June 3, resulting in the arrest of two individuals with significant criminal histories.

Those arrested include Joan Sebastian Acosta-Gacha, an individual from Colombia with convictions for sexual exploitation of a minor, invasion of privacy, and stolen vehicle. Also apprehended was Jorge Luis Verastegui-Ramirez, from Peru, who is wanted internationally for aggravated robbery in his home country. Verastegui-Ramirez reportedly entered the U.S. illegally in Arizona in 2022.

Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis commented on the operation, saying, "Despite smears from sanctuary politicians and anti-ICE agitators, ICE is not slowing down its efforts to arrest and remove the worst of the worst from our country." Bis added that sanctuary politicians should cooperate with ICE to remove criminals from their communities, emphasizing that ICE will continue its mission to remove violent criminals.
