WIRED is reporting that Microsoft is facing significant challenges with its artificial intelligence products and its subsidiary, GitHub. It said that despite CEO Satya Nadella's optimistic outlook at the recent Build developer's conference, Microsoft's stock has been down this year, and its workplace AI products, known as Copilot, have seen disappointing adoption. The publication noted that while Microsoft was an early leader in coding tools, Anthropic has taken the lead with its agentic approach to coding. Microsoft responded by ending its Claude Code licenses to push developers toward Copilot. WIRED also reported that GitHub, a crucial code repository, has experienced unprecedented downtimes, leading to widespread complaints and defections from its user base. Microsoft VP Scott Hanselman, who is on the GitHub technical staff, is involved in the company's efforts to embrace agentic AI, having helped bring the open-source OpenClaw into Microsoft. He demonstrated the company's "copilots" at the Build conference, showcasing their ability to automate tasks.
