U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) recently arrested individuals convicted of serious crimes including murder, sexual battery, sodomy, and burglary, according to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
The arrests included Jose Gutierrez-Portillo and Javier Moya-Tentory, both convicted of murder in New York and Texas, respectively. Yaniczio Castro-Felix was arrested for sexual battery in California, Miguel Equihua-Zuniga for sodomy in California, and Arnoldo Marroquin-Romero for aiding and abetting burglary in Nebraska.
Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis criticized "sanctuary politicians," stating, "Instead of thanking our brave ICE law enforcement for removing the worst of the worst from our communities, sanctuary politicians continue spreading garbage about ICE facilities and political theatre." Bis added that such rhetoric contributes to a more than 1,300% increase in assaults, a 3,300% increase in vehicular attacks, and an 8,000% increase in death threats against ICE officers.
