Ghanaian national Joseph Kwadwo Badu Boateng, also known as “Dada Joe Remix,” pleaded guilty last week in Tucson, Arizona, to Conspiracy to Commit Wire Fraud for his role in a romance and inheritance fraud scheme that targeted elderly victims across the United States.
Boateng, who was arrested in Ghana on May 27, 2025, and extradited to the U.S. in June 2025, admitted in his plea agreement that the scheme operated from 2013 through March 2023. Co-conspirators used online dating sites and electronic communications to feign romantic relationships with victims.
The fraudsters also falsely claimed to have received an inheritance of gold and jewels, demanding taxes and fees from victims to release these items. Boateng has agreed to pay approximately $4.4 million in restitution for the direct losses caused by his involvement.
His sentencing is set for September 8, 2026, before United States District Judge Angela M. Martinez. The investigation was conducted by the FBI Phoenix Division’s Sierra Vista office, with prosecution handled by the U.S. Attorney’s Office District of Arizona, Tucson, and significant international support for the extradition.
