The Social Security Administration said the operational status of its local offices, card centers and hearing offices in Mississippi has changed.

In a notice to the public, the agency directed people to check the current status of their local office, card center or hearing office online before visiting.

The agency also reminded the public that a visit may not be necessary, noting that many services can be handled online.

"Did you know that you can handle a lot of your business with us online?" the agency said.

The Social Security Administration pointed to a range of popular online services, including reviewing your latest statement and earnings history, estimating retirement benefits and checking the status of an application.
