An Annandale man was arrested and charged with attempting to disarm a law enforcement officer following a non-fatal officer-involved shooting and taser deployment during a domestic incident response on July 28.
Fairfax County Police officers responded to the 7000 block of Sutter Lane where Nehemia Fuentes Banegas, 26, had reportedly stabbed himself with two knives after a verbal argument and left the residence on foot. A perimeter was established, and K9 and Helicopter Units assisted in the search, leading officers to a wooded area off Americana Drive.
During the search, Fuentes Banegas suddenly emerged from heavy brush, violently grabbed an officer’s firearm, and attempted to disarm him. The officer discharged his weapon while a second officer simultaneously deployed a department-issued taser, resulting in non-life-threatening injuries to Fuentes Banegas, who was then transported to a local hospital.
After medical clearance, Fuentes Banegas was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and charged with Attempted Disarming of a Law Enforcement Officer, held without bond. The officer involved, a 12-year K9 Unit veteran, is on restricted duty pending criminal and administrative investigations, with body-worn camera footage to be released within 30 days.
